A golden decade of polar codes: From basic principle to 5G applications

After the pursuit of seventy years, invention polar codes indicates that we have found first capacity-achieving coding with low complexity construction and decoding, which is great breakthrough theory in past two decades. In this survey, retrospect history summarize advancement ten years. First, primary principle channel polarization investigated such basic construction, method, classic successive cancellation (SC) decoding are reviewed. Second, order to improve performance finite code length, introduce guiding conclude five design criteria for design, implementation practical communication system based on exemplar schemes literature. Especially, explain behind concatenated rate matching a 5G wireless system. Furthermore, improved SC algorithms, as list (SCL) stack (SCS) etc., compared. Finally, research prospects future 6G explored, including optimization short codes, fading channels, coded modulation HARQ, transmission, namely processing. Predictably, new methodology, will shine light unveil revolution transmission technology.
